Offline mode

On a train or a flaky connection? Turn on offline mode and keep working with My Day, your task lists, issues and quick capture. Your changes are saved on the device and sent as soon as you're back online.

Turn it on

Offline mode is set per device, because it stores data in that browser.

  1. Open your profile (account menu → Profile settings) and go to Offline.
  2. Switch on Work offline on this device.
  3. Wait for Ready to work offline on this device.

Brainitive then keeps what you open while you're online, so it's there when the connection drops.

What works offline

AreaOffline you can …
My DaySee today's plan, mark items done, add and remove items
Task listsYour last 20 task lists: add, edit, complete and reorder tasks
IssuesYour last 50 issues: change the title, status, priority, assignee and due date, add comments, add them to My Day. The description can only be edited online.
Quick captureSave ideas to your captures

Documents are not available offline. (They have their own safety net: while you edit a doc and lose the connection, your changes are kept and merged when you're back.)

Syncing

The top bar shows the state of your device:

  • Offline · … waiting to sync – you're offline, your changes are queued.
  • … waiting to sync – you're back online and Brainitive is sending your changes.
  • All changes synced – everything is up to date.

Brainitive syncs automatically when the connection returns, when you come back to the tab and every 30 seconds.

Sync conflicts

If someone else changed the same thing while you were offline, nothing is overwritten. Brainitive shows a sync conflict with your value (Mine) and theirs (Theirs) for each field, and you decide:

  • Keep mine
  • Keep theirs
  • Keep both (where possible) – their version stays and yours is added as a comment.

If the item was deleted in the meantime, you can Recreate it or Discard my change. The same goes for changes you are no longer allowed to make.

Privacy

What's stored on the device:

  • Today's My Day, the last 20 task lists and the last 50 issues you opened while online (titles, statuses, people, due dates, the latest comments).
  • Changes you made offline, until they are synced.
  • The app itself, so it opens without internet.

The data belongs to your account only. It is deleted when you sign out, when someone else signs in on that browser, or when you turn offline mode off. Clear offline data deletes it right away.

WARNING

Changes that haven't synced yet exist only on that device. If you turn offline mode off or clear the data before they are sent, they are lost — Brainitive asks you first.
